Graphic designing is a complex subject, and there’s no way to master it. However, there are some great tips and tricks to get started on the right path:
Graphic Designing Color Scheme
The most important aspect of an aesthetically pleasing graphic layout is proper usage of colors, and not just any colors… but brand colors!
Now, mastering color schemes can be tricky for graphic designers because it’s so subjective—what looks good to you might not look good to someone else, and vice-versa.
In such cases, you need to strike a balance between your personal preferences and the preferences of your target audience.
How to achieve this balance?
Curate a mock layout of how your website should look, now fill that layout with a color scheme specific to your brand, show it to your mom/friend/supporter and take their opinions. These opinions should give you a rough idea on what to improve and what to keep.
Font Selection
The second most important thing we want to talk about is fonts!
Fonts are one of the easiest ways to add personality or style to your designs. Now, you should not choose all sorts of fonts, but fonts that go well with your color scheme and that are soothing to the eyes. Google Fonts is a font selection extension powered by google which allows you to walk through fonts of all sorts of shapes and sizes.
Bonus tip- Always, always use proper alignment while putting up any sort of text on your website. Adobe Software provides excellent alignment options that will make your page more professional and presentable.
Never shy away from Contrasts
After colors and fonts, comes contrast.
What difference will it make, you ask?
Contrasting patterns, layouts and graphics, make things stand out, which is important in any kind of design.
For example: if you want an element to pop off the page (like a logo), then make sure it contrasts with other elements on the page by using plenty of white space around it or using dark colors instead of light ones.
Bonus Tip- You can also highlight certain Texts or CTA buttons by adopting a famille de couleurs approach, wherein you pair different shades of one color family together and then use tools to generate a shadow like effect by decreasing/increasing their saturation levels.
Consistency
In order to make end users remember you for your designs, it is important to have a color palette and to always use that same palette consistently. You can experiment with different patterns and motifs but never experiment with your color palette. Keep them as unified as possible, even if you feel like doing something different make sure it’s of the same breed. If it’s pink– You may use violet, orchid or champagne, but don’t use brown or black.
Lastly, let your imagination flow freely. Afterall, Graphic Design is an art form. And just like any other art, it requires the artist (aka the designer) to make full use of his/her creative juices.
